Originally for this last project I was going to revisit an earlier prompt about faceless celebrities and was just gonna polish up the "faces", but that idea rapidly evolved into something I hadn't expected. I ended up combining bits from each project to create a whole new video. One video I was inspired by was the "Underneath" video in which I'd painted a skull on my face, however this round I felt compelled to capture a more metaphorical sense of what lies underneath, these are the parts of which we don't see, but rather sense. I also took from my video "Rouge" a similar style, in the sense of this kind of vintage, drug, culture, Tarantino inspired sort of way. From the first project I used a bunch of layering techniques, I applied the same thing here, only by using keylight in After Effects. I'd never done green screen work before so I wanted to try it out, so I headed to Walmart and bought a teal colored sheet, some finger paint, play dough and went home and shot some footage. I'd written a song on the spot called "faceless" and was going to make a video keying out the play dough on my face, but then after toying around in after effects with my test footage, the song hurt kept coming to mind, so I put up my walmart sheet and filmed myself singing hurt, which has always been a vulnerable song for me, singing in general brings back my innate shyness from childhood I don't know why exactly, but I try and push myself to overcome any fear or obstacle because I care to much about this world to hide from it.
